Another Fresh Start

It's a bright, sun drenched day - the first, official day of 2013. It looks and feels like a glorious fresh start. All things are possible when you get a day like this. Our New Year's Eve good-bye to 2012 gig went really well at the Redwood Cafe in Cotati. We had lots of faithful fans show up from the river area and lots of new faces came too. Andre had mentioned the event on his radio show. That helped get the word out. I think we played well and kept the pace up all night. Drew joined us for his Bob Weir-inspired versions of "Iko Iko" and "Samson and Delilah."  Drew does it all - he's our inspiration, our sound guy, our roadie, our band member - AND he gave me a sweet smack on the cheek at midnight while I tried to muddle through "Auld Lang Syne." We also had our friend Ron on the trombone for the "Iko Iko" spectacular. Andre played with us all night, so we got to do several songs that we used to do with his unique guitar licks and smooth vocal harmonies. The fans danced and even sang along on the Dead tunes. They all joined in on our final "Ripple" - it felt so good - sort of a confirmation that the music promises to carry us along through life's challenges. We've  been pulled into a generous, fun-loving spirit - and it's with us, no matter what.  I'm a believer in the Phoenix phenomenon of transformation and creating new life situations.   I love to see love triumph, and it did last night as our Craig gave a beautiful ring to his Jo while we did Dylan's "The Man In Me." What a great moment. On the way home, Mike and I were working on staying alert, munching car snacks, as we drove up the coast. Not too many folks were out and about - just a select few who chose to stare at the ocean on New Year's Eve. Mike and I talked about the weeks ahead for the Thugz. It's looking pretty darn good. We're happy with our sound, and we never stop progressing. On January 11th, we'll do our own evening at the Hopmonk in Sebastopol. Mike's son, Spencer, happens to be a talented video guy, and he'll be there filming as we play. We're hoping some fans will show up that night and join in the fun.  So 2013 is looking good. I'm heading outside for a quick infusion of vitamin D. I hope we can all stay healthy and happy to enjoy the treats 2013 offers. Take care.

Love, Sylvia
