Black Friday Bash

The "3 F's" are  exciting yet exhausting - the "3 F's" would be family, feasting and football. I know I was ready to leave the Thanksgiving holiday behind and play music Friday night at Northwood. Since it was "Black Friday," we weren't sure if many fans would be around - but the tribe showed up. I had plenty of pumpkin pie to work off, and the high-energy crowd demanded plenty of driving tunes - so we helped each other out. After a few sound anomalies (our old, familiar nemesis) we got going with a solid first set that included our new tune, "Master of the Highway." It's a bona fide truck driving song - Mike wrote it for his brother, a bona fide truck driver! For some reason that song sticks in your mind - all that imagery of a truck leaving the highway, launched into deep space, zooming along at warp speed velocity. After the show, Drew suggested we should think about "Master of the Highway" as an acronym - "M.O.T.H." We could have a new name for the band, costume ideas, and all sorts of creative activities could emerge. Oh dear - that silliness ended, but the song remains. Between sets it was my turn to do some solo tunes. I've been so wrapped up in the crazy news about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict that I just had to do some Steve Earle selections. I'm so grateful there are songs that  express our hope for a peaceful world - musicians keep writing and performing them - but when will the politicians and business tycoons listen? Soon, I hope. We started our second set with "This Wheel's On Fire" and "Box of Rain" - it was upward and onward from there. Next week we'll return to our usual Thursday schedule at Northwood, and I'm sure the fall/Thanksgiving decorations will all be replaced by Northwood's Christmas glitter and glamour. Drew's bus even has holiday lights twinkling in the windows. How festive can a Thugz show be? We'll also start December with a gig in Cotati at the Redwood Cafe - so it's time to spread the Thugz holiday cheer around. How about a Santa Moth, or "Deck the Moths With Boughs of Holly" - sorry. Take care. Love, Sylvia
