Doug the Thug at the Blue

To quote Dr. John..."What a night!" Thugz past and present all gathered last night at the Blue. We were there to honor our drummer, Doug Maas, who recently passed on, much too early. He was a driving force in Thugz history. It was Doug who gave us "Tribal Hippie Under Ground Zone" and Doug who inspired us with his energy and smiles. We have many "Doug stories," and they were definitely shared last night. We played our tunes with Doug in mind and heart, and the dancer/revelers did the same. Mike gathered a few old photos from early "Doug the Thug" days - Chris and I both looked with wonder at the images of our younger selves. Time flies, and "...the wheel is turnin' and you can't slow down, you can't let go and you can't hold on, you can't go back and you can't stand still..." I guess the "thunder" got Doug while still a young man. We're all grateful for the time we had with him, making music for so long at the Blue Heron. As I mentioned  the Thugz tribe was there last night - Mike, Chris, Andre, Ian, Stephanie, Marc, Terri Ann, Shawn, myself, and many devoted friends and family  - Jim, Martha, Lynn, Larry, Deanne - to name a few - we all go "way back!" Doug's wife, Diane flew up from the L.A. area for the evening, and I was pleased she could see the impact Doug had on our tribe. The music was loud and energetic - the bar was filled with loud and energetic folks - just the way Doug would have wanted.  Take care. Love, Sylvia
