Family Friendly Thugz

For all those who still think our band name stands for burly criminal types, consider our gig last night. It was family night at the theater. Mike's cousins came all the way from frozen Maine for the evening. They were escorted by Spencer Campbell, Mike's son, who played a rippin' trumpet solo on "Thunder On the Mountain." He played licks back and forth with Mike on guitar, a veritable father/son extravaganza. It was also the evening to honor our own Drew Carpenter - roadie, sound tech, and concert promoter. Everyone there sang a rousing "Happy Birthday" even though his official day is Saturday. We got to have Bradley, our Thugz Associate, on drums. He led the way to some deep inner spaces for a while, and it felt great to just let go and follow along. Speaking of family, we should have our regular drummer back next week. Ian took a leave to help Cristy as she gave birth at home to a healthy baby boy, Zephyr's brother. The family is expanding in many ways. I got to meet some folks last night who had never been to a Thugz gig. I saw plenty of multi-age tie-dyed fans out there, dancing away, smiling, and often singing along. When we finished with "Ripple," it was like bringing the whole family to the Thanksgiving table - it was a great night.

Take care. love, Sylvia
