It Takes a Village

The Thugz had been playing for years when Drew came into our lives. He was an east-coast transplant, a young man from Virginia, full of California dreams. Our karma must have been good because he was (and is) a genuine blessing. Drew has managed to learn all about intricate sound systems, and he's a top-notch roadie to boot. But most of all, Drew is part of the family. Once he met the beautiful and talented Maris, the circle expanded again. (We can't forget Cody and Trip either - our canine mates!)  Drew's dreams led him to produce last night's huge show at the River Theater - the "420 Daze" - 4 bands, food, drink, dancing, and a celebration of the California lifestyle that Drew traveled west to find. When the Thugz did their segment of the show, Drew was right there, keeping things going and making us feel like stars. He was a whirlwind yesterday, so I didn't get to check in too much, but I know both he and Maris worked very, very hard to make the event a success. Some caring fans offered to help along with Jerry's theater staff, so the village support kicked in. I'm hoping Drew didn't lose money on the whole thing - that would dampen anyone's dreams. I often wonder just how supportive the west county community can be for these events. The village needs to expand, and folks from other venues have to think of the river scene as a destination area. I think there will be more and more interest if we can keep the music offerings vibrant and alive. Of course, lovely summer weather will help! It does take a village to do most anything well, but Drew deserves all the credit for his vision and determination to offer joy, fun, a positive outlook, healthy food, and great music to us all. Way to go Drew!

Take care. Love, Sylvia
