Jerry Celebration

We lost our home base Thursday night at the last minute - so apologies to you guys who showed up expecting a "Thugzday" at the River Theater. The "Lazy Bears" came early, and started to prepare for their big weekend, so it was best to get out of their way. That made our gig Saturday a little sweeter since we were dying to play and see our tribe. It was a great Jerry Garcia Celebration -capacity crowd and lots of money went to the Rex Foundation! By the way, it's time-well-spent when you go to the Rex website - there's a lot happening out there, and we're happy to do our part. Melanie read the Rex Foundation letter to us last night, and I hope you got the message that we are all a part of the generous, loving spirit behind Rex and Jerry's hopeful plans. As Melanie mentioned, the most important thing is for all of us to be in this world with a loving heart. It's not always easy, but music sure makes it easier to pull off. Last night we got to play all Grateful Dead music, and I loved it. Some songs like "Stella Blue" and "He's Gone" aren't in our usual club dance scene repertoire, but they're fun to play. When we did "Not Fade Away," I was blown away by Mike's guitar work.  He did a long solo and used different effects as he played. Of course, all his trumpet work brought songs to a high energy level - I know Jerry would have loved it. The wonderful thing about doing the Jerry Celebration each year is the fact that folks who love the music but don't know the Thugz come out. We get to make new friends and watch people relive memories - emotions are on the surface, and love is in the air. Mike and Melanie are our dynamic duo who were at the helm of organizing the event, but plenty of other folks did their part. We're all grateful for the chance to celebrate Jerry's gift to us. Happy Birthday, Jerry. We miss you. Take care. Love, Sylvia
