New Horizons

The THUGZ found themselves in Cotati/Penngrove last night - at the Twin Oaks Tavern. That name brings up memories of a funky, country/western bar - playing Waylon Jennings tunes in the '70s. I walked into a completely re-done place last night, with a really nice outdoor event space. Twin Oaks has become a friendly community gathering place with great staff and smiling faces - no more crying in  warm beer in the "stix." The Thugz had a wonderful night, made even better by a big group celebrating our pal Gary's retirement. Gary was the center of attention, clearly loved and appreciated by everyone. We were honored that he engineered having his party with us. Many other old friends showed up too - it's amazing how much life is out there on the other side of the highway! Of course there were Twin Oaks regulars who had never heard of the Thugz. They were a bit wary at first - "Who are these hippies anyway?" All it took to win friends was a few rockin' tunes and a few trumpet solos. It works every time. Mike and Ian had a special connection to some folks there - retired staff from Tomales High School. Mike was a fellow teacher and Ian was a former student - old home week, for sure. Tonight, the Thugz quartet will hit the road for coastal "Mendonoma" - the historic Stewarts Point Store's old ballroom. It's a different world, but we're looking forward to spreading the joy of live music - more dancing, smiling people - oh boy! Take care. Love, Sylvia
