New Moon Attitude

Here we are in mid-July, and the world just keeps on spinning. We did the 4th of July mini-tour, welcomed Andre back into the fold, then celebrated Stephanie's birthday. Monday's new moon signaled new beginnings in so many ways. We didn't have Andre at the theater last night since he's still doing the summer KRSH Backyard Concerts, so we proceeded as a quartet and tried some new things. Mike dug out his '60's vintage "germanium box" and rocked the house with some wild guitar solos. He told me about the early days when he used stacked amps and cranked that box up for max effect! I can only imagine the sheer power and physical impact - like the ad with the guy being shoved into his chair, head forced back and hair flyin' - smiling, of course. Meanwhile. I'm still learning what my Hammond can do. It took me forever to conquer all the buttons and options on the Nord, but I think this new keyboard will come easier. Once Andre comes back, he will hold down plenty of rhythm, allowing me to travel around the keys a bit more - oh boy. Last night, as fans started to come in, we had a happy, energetic crowd, and Mike chose to do lots of Dead tunes we haven't done for a while like "Ship of Fools" and "Touch of Grey." It was fun to wipe away the cobwebs and bring them back. I realized Mike was working on getting us ready for our Jerry Day on August 3rd at the Roadhouse. By that time the new moon will grow, get full and be on its last quarter. But I know it will be lovely and shine bright in the warm summer evening when we do the show for the Rex Foundation. Be there, or be impossibly square! Take care. Love, Sylvia
