Now what?

Here we are - survivors of the latest looming uncertainty. Apocalyptic predictions have turned out to be figurative - so far. One thing I'm sure of is the earth's axis, and today is the day we're pointing farthest away from the sun in this hemisphere. But things get brighter from this point - in many ways.  As sunrises and sunsets start to gradually move further north, I want us all to regain some hope for our personal and national lives. Since we live with such beautiful natural surroundings, it's hard to grasp how badly our Mother Earth has been assaulted - but we also know what needs to be done, and I believe we're all trying our best to protect our environment. Every little bit helps. Our music and our wonderful extended tribe help me believe in beauty and love - peace too. All the war mongering, greedy power plays, disregard for the gift of life, and devotion to speed and growth at any cost - all that stuff gets put into its proper perspective  when we have the chance to share love, dance a bit, sing, get silly and a little wild. It feels so good to play and smile, surrounded by happy folks. "Are you kind?" Of course you are - so let's get on with 2013. We know how to work hard, have fun and how to take care of ourselves and our loved ones. It will be a great new year.
