Perfection

Perfection is elusive - it might not even be "real," but I found it last night at the Roadhouse. We did the spring "Outside" show, and everything fit into place so well. It rained the night before, but sunshine and mild temperatures prevailed for the late afternoon. We set up early while a baby shower was underway at the picnic tables near the stage. The minute I arrived, I was offered cake! Of course, we're all wondering when Maris will have her baby, but faithful Drew was there, doing his job, just waiting for the call to zoom home. Shawn Britton came to back up Drew, and he also played drums for a couple of tunes so Ian could get out there on guitar. The Thugz unit was a "well-oiled machine" - with shuffling people and instruments. It all worked - the new tunes we bravely premiered and the little birthday tribute to Mike - I tried to pull off "When I'm 64..." It seemed like everybody was there - old friends and new - folks we hadn't seen for such a long time came out to enjoy the evening under the redwoods with us. There were babies, toddlers, and especially Zephyr and Nicco - Ian's boys who had a blast running around, dancing, and just cavorting. At one point, Zephyr came up to stand near dad at the drums - definitely "deja vu." So why was it "perfection" for me? I loved the full-circle effect of it all - old songs, new songs, old friends, new friends, birth, even the passing of an old friend (we dedicated "Ripple"), a birthday, an anniversary, cleansing rain showers, spring flowers, the intense bond we all feel - it's so nice to care so much. All of this, packaged in a huge "cloud" of glorious music - can't get better than that!Take care. Love, Sylvia
