R & R at the River Theater

Last night, we had just finished doing our sound check and zipped through a couple of songs. Then Chris spoke up. Usually, I don't hear comments from Chris about what's going on, but he said, "Why can't what I do during the day be this much fun?" It's a simple commentary on "day jobs," but powerful none the less. We all enter the River Theater each week expecting something invigorating and renewing. For some reason, we decided to cut loose last night, and the jams just kept on coming. I think we were really familiar with Bradley's drum style after his weeks of sitting in for Ian. He was our rock and kept the beat pulsing along as Mike ventured into the ether. I never go first - I still wait for Mike to lead the way, but it's thrilling every time we leave the beaten path. As we went on our musical adventures, Drew would frequently fire up the light show with swirling blobs - very unpredictable, organic images. I know my mind tends to flit back and forth from the music to my own problems and insecurities. But the jamming helps me find moments of R & R that keep the "Dire Wolf" at bay. I can see the reactions of the fans out there too. I know a bit about their lives, and I know the music and movement help to create a positive glow for them. It really is a lot of fun to be there each week - but, more importantly, it's essential. We will be playing in many different venues as spring rolls into summer, but I'll always look forward to Thursdays. The Theater should become quite inviting as it gets warmer too. I have visions of open doors, warm summer breezes,  and music spilling out onto Main Street. Why not? ..."just gotta poke around..." Guerneville has so much heart!   Take care. Love, Sylvia
