T/BG Day Six/Caspar

Mike joined me on the long and winding road to Caspar yesterday. We made the usual stops in Gualala for coffee and gas and enjoyed the spectacular coastal scenery. The Boris bunch were already at the Inn when we arrived. I know I feel a little pooped out from all this driving, and I can only imagine how the Boris Garcia guys feel - driving, motels, weird food. But they are amazing - always upbeat and so much fun to be around. The Caspar Inn is attempting a "comeback" after a long hiatus. It didn't have the warmth and lived-in feeling I remember, but the owner is trying to get music going there, and that's a good thing. Their sound guy was Mikey - not Mickey, so I had to say something about that old commercial, " Let Mikey try it - he eats everything" - Life cereal, I believe. Mikey did a grand job, by the way. We decided to do an improvisational set, so no one knew how it would go. However, our crafty Mike, AKA "Fearless Leader," had a master plan in his head, I'm sure. We just started playing, and things happened. I had the best time - it was really the high point of this tour for me. We were in synch and played well - on the edge of psychedelic, cosmic, sonic heaven. Chris played the best solo ever on "Last Man Standing," Andre sang his heart out on NSWB, Stephanie joined us for a few harmonies, and Mike really led the pack with interesting guitar licks and soaring trumpet solos. Bradley kept us all together with ever-changing tempos and moods that happen when you improvise. We played for about an hour and left the Caspar crowd in the good hands of Boris Garcia. They were rockin' the joint when we pulled out. The trip home didn't seem as long as going there - weird how that works. Now I've got to think about getting to Loomis/Rocklin, somewhere near Sacramento. The "Smilin' Fest" (first annual) will be a true adventure, I'm sure.Take care. Love, Sylvia
