T/BG Day Three/Cotati

I let a day go by before blogging about Sunday, but, believe me, the memories are fresh, and I'm still grinning with delight. We were at the Redwood Cafe in Cotati, close enough to home for several Thugz fans to show up. Kudos to the loyal bunch - Kay, Kathleen, John & Kay Barnes, Richard and more! The Cafe staff always welcome us warmly, and that helps us relax and feel at home. Besides, the food is fantastic, and the dance floor is great. At this gig, Boris Garcia went first and played a wonderful set. It was all acoustic, so Tim played with brushes and Bud played the club's little piano. The sound was fresh and clear - thanks, again, to Drew. We played a dynamic set and loved having Stephanie add her vocals and uke. But the fun really began when we combined forces and jammed. My favorite tune was "Goin' Down the Road Feelin' Bad." It's easy to play, so we all got to solo and cut loose. I also enjoyed Jeff's version of "Wild Horses" - in bluegrass style. The longest tune was "Serve Somebody" with Stephanie and Jeff sharing vocals. That song has tons of lyrics, but it also has a pulsing, relentless beat, so it's really fun to do. Since we had 2 drummers, Bradley played his drums for some tunes then switched to shakers, etc. He adds energy to everything we play, no matter what he plays! We recorded the evening, and I look forward to hearing how the jams came out. So on we go to Sweetwater in Mill Valley tomorrow. Even though the long drives are hard for me, I'm having a total blast. I hope we get to see some of our loyal locals when we get to Zodiacs in Petaluma on Thursday. That would be frosting on the proverbial cake! Take care. Love, Sylvia
