Thugz Diaspora

It's been years of Thursday nights with the Thugz - from the blue (Blue Heron) to the pink (Pink Elephant) to  the green (Northwood golf greens) to the theater (River). We love playing for folks everywhere, but our local west county Thursday bunch is a special part of the tribe. Thursdays aren't happening right now, and we all miss each other. We played at the Forestville Club Wednesday night with the Willie Waldman Project, and a few Thursday regulars showed up. Suki had a blast interpreting the Waldman group's jazz through her dance moves. Liz showed up with her drummer son, John. Tim and Darlene were there - Gary was there, and he earns a special award since he also made it to our Zodiacs show. Jo (of Craig and Jo) came to dance and offer encouraging words. Our lovely Maris danced around the room, and Shawn came to check out the scene. Stanley Mouse cruised by the stage to say hello too. It's always so inspiring to have our friends show up. But Thugz fans appear everywhere - like Kay and Sean at the Guerneville ATM yesterday. Everybody has the same question to ask, "When are you going to do Thugz Thursdays again?" We haven't figured out how to pull it off yet, but we keep trying. It's actually a good thing for us - we have to get out there and share our music in unfamiliar territory. It's always a challenge. Our fans have to rely on the website or emails or facebook for information about gigs. But the Thugz Diaspora is a powerful force - fans tell fans about what's happening. Meanwhile, small subgroups of Thugz try to keep the music going at home. Mike and I play at the Backyard restaurant bi-monthly. Mike sometimes works with Stephanie at Trios or the Blue. We try to do radio spots too, and Andre keeps his radar open for opportunities. We might be spread around, but we're a family. Maybe our big event Memorial Day weekend at the Monte Rio amphitheater will bring us all together - just like a family reunion. Take care. Love, Sylvia
